In the ‘The Wood makes the whisky’ campaign, Gordon & Macphail offers us to try out a few whiskys from their range. We begin today with this Ardmore, matured in a second fill Sherry cask.
Nose : pretty discrete, with a thin smoke in the background. The foreground slowly unveils itself, beginning with hazelnuts, grilled almonds notes, then evolves towards a sweeter register: stewed apples, pears, quince jelly. In parallel, more mineral notes bring freshness, sustained by aniseed and mint.
Mouth : Very light texture, as if this Ardmore was too diluted. The smoke is way more present than at nose, even if it remains soft and light. The flavors, even if light, cover a large spectrum : dried fruits (grilled almonds), spices (pepper, cinnamon), fruits (apple, pear) and citrus fruits (oranges).
Finish : warm and quite persistent despite the reduction, with apple crumble and smoke notes.
