This one is one of the bottlings dedicated to the Nantes Whisky Club (NWC). Facing the good reputation of Ardmores from 1992, we could only be curious of a 20 years old matured in a bourbon single cask…
Nose : We start on a lightly smoky peat. We then get a host of fruits: apples, pears, peaches, apricots… With delicacy, we go on a good vanilla dose that breaks the charm a bit. However, it quickly recovers with a few woody notes tangled with camphor, milky pinches and peppered mint. It then becomes more floral with wax. A very changing nose that loses its smoke to get closer to a fruity vegetation embellished with farm touches. A nice way to start the tasting.
Mouth : We have a nice amplitude with warmness due to the alcohol. We go back on a rather vegetal peat, lightly smoky. There are marks of minerals and a bit of wax, while a bit of fruits get there (mainly white peaches but also pomegranate). The second part becomes fresher, between cold stone and vegetal touches (peppered mint). A few drops of water gives it an opening angle with a beautiful expression without losing complexity. A complex and well balanced mouth.
Finish : We keep this fresh flow and the fruity softness while the peat finds back its smoke. The aftertaste then splits between the peat and the white peach.
