Balblair is a Northern Higland distillery discreet for the least. If, since the 97 edition, young annual releases struggle to fully convince, the older bottling show an impressive balance. This 1998 version is a nice example of the quality of their cask strengths.
Nose : As often with Balblair, it’s very melted. We have almond cream, white flowers, melon. It then almost lingers on soap (lavender flavor) then on pineapple with small herbaceous notes. It gets even better with water.
Mouth : If the degree is a bit too high, adding water is life-saving. It reveals some royal jelly, melon, sweet almond, white flowers, white chocolate. It’s melted with a delicate balance.
Finish : We end on a hint of citrus fruits (fresh orange) and pineapple. We have a nice persistence.
