Auchroisk is a recent distillery since it was created in 1974. If it’s mainly used for blends (J&B), some bottlings appeared and, amongst them, a lot come from the 90s. It’s from the German from Sansibar that we get this 90 bottles limited version…
Nose : We begin with citrus fruits notes (with candied orange), kirsch and stewed apricots tones. We then get more distant scents: mango chutney with a certain peppery power. We then have a quite creamy texture (ripe butter), a bit of polish with sweet potato, blond tobacco, a bit of smoke and leather. The opening makes it more mineral. We have a rather strange nose that works pretty well despite its formula changes while it evolves in the glass.
Mouth : We have a quite oily texture that gives a few guava notes, a bit of caramel and a big oak background, then undergrowth oscillating between a green moss expression and some spreading soil. Pepper, very bitter oranges and a few pine notes come in the second part. The consistency is good but the whole has a medium balance. At times, it lacks delight and the passing to the finish is well spicy and woody.
Finish : Spices and blond tobacco show up on the finish with a bit of nuts and oranges. The length is frankly medium and the ensemble is globally more standard. The aftertaste lingers on vegetal roots and orange.
