We already had the chance to try the famous Balveny 50 years old. Once again, we have Damien Anglada, Brand Ambassador, to thank for offering us the opportunity to taste this 40 years old cask…
Nose : The first nose is a bit alcoholic with customized candies, as if some Arlequins had been perfumed with exotic fruits. The opening delivers it from the alcohol with a richer texture, a lot of pineapple juice, toffee, dark chocolate and spices (cinnamon, cardamom). We then have some honey, orange nectar all while keeping an acid membrane. It becomes more melted, maritime with the airing but we sense a kind of aromatic concentration which is quite intense. It’s good but a bit too direct.
Mouth : We’re facing a very melted whisky where the flavors intertwine softly. It lacks explosion in mouth, still with this honey and fruit juice concerto. The second part is more discreet with a bit of eucalyptus in the middle of cardamom and lightly woody notes. However, the fruity claw remains present.
Finish : It is quite short on quince dough, pineapple, clove and iodine. It is still compact whereas the aftertaste reveals itself to be a bit more woody, with astringency.
