New turn with the Dutch from De Molen, after a Tsarina Esra that impressed us. Does this Rasputin (Imperial Stout bottled in march 2014) have healing powers like the character from which it’s inspired?
Nose : Red (cherries) and dark (blueberries) fruits on the menu, beautiful acidness on the first nose. In a second time, spices (ginger, cumin) and coffee get noticed, alongside a few tobacco notes. The balance is very good. We feel the aromatic power (and a bit the alcohol too) without this beer to loose its roundness. It’s pretty high level.
Mouth : A quite spicy and sour (red currant) attack, sustained by a pretty strong espresso served on the counter ! Very nice thickness, solid structure in mouth. The balance is still here : round enough to drink it easily, it shows a certain sourness that impedes it from getting too « comfortable » and from losing interest after a few minutes.
Finish : d’ A very nice length, it evolves towards coffee and spices, without losing this acidness that really works as a main theme for this tasing.
